Consultation into future of village’s post office branch is launched

The Post Office is proposing to move its Warboys branch into a new outlet in the village.

The company has launched a six-week consultation into the future of its High Street branch, with plans to see it relocated into the Spar store, in nearby Mill Green.

The Post Office says the move would result in longer opening hours for villagers.

A spokesman said: “It would open as a modern main-style branch with Post Office services provided from three modern counters – one open-plan, one full-screened and an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter.”

The two main counters would be open Monday to Saturday, 9am-5.30pm, and the single counter alongside the retail counter would offer selected services from Monday to Saturday: 7am-10pm, and Sunday, from 8am-10pm.

The proposal would see the office open for an additional 58 hours per week.

The relocation proposal is part of a modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Suzanne Richardson, regional network manager for the Post Office, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. “We are confident that this new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

Villagers and interested parties are being asked to give their comments on the move in public consultation. The consultation will close on March 3. Submissions can be made to Freepost, Your Comments, Post Office Ltd, via e-mail to, via the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or textphone 03457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online at with the branch code 302230.
