Residents at the Nelson Lodge care home, in St Neots, were able to learn more about bird watching during a talk last week.

Trevor Gunton, who received a Lifetime Achivement award at the St Neots Community Awards last year, spoke about Paxton Pits and the birdlife at the nature reserve. Trevor is a member of the Friends of Paxton Pits and visited the care home in Nelson Road, in Eaton Socon, on January 30.

Residents had also spent time making bird tables to celebrate National Bird Watching Week, which is organised by the RSPB.

“The aim of these events is to bring the community to Nelson Lodge and to encourage local support in making sure our resident feel like they are still an important part of the St Neots area,” said Cliona Pritchard from Anchor, the company which owns Nelson Lodge.

“We work with the Coffee Pot Association with a small number of their members joining us weekly for our Love to Move sessions, which are run by Kim Hall. She is making huge changes to the lives of our residents and also offering support to those still living in the community and providing a weekly social event with exercise thrown in.”

The event was also attended by St Neots mayor, Cllr Derek Giles and mayoress Sandie Giles and also Dot Morfett, president of St Neots Rotary Club.
