Spearmark International showed Minister for the Cabinet Office, Francis Maude, around its Eaton Socon premises on Monday, to show how the family-run company is benefiting from the games.

Spearmark produces a broad range of children’s branded lunchware, tableware and drinkware which is sold throughout the UK and Europe.

In 2010, the company won their biggest contract to date, a license from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), to produce merchandise, including tea, coffee, biscuit, cake tins and money boxes.

The items will be sold from the online shop and at other outlets including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s.

Mr Maude told The Hunts Post: “I am delighted to see how local businesses are thriving as a result of the Olympic Games.

“It is essential that the economic benefits of London 2012 are felt throughout the country, not just in London, and those small businesses are given the opportunity to compete at a global level.”

Managing Director of Spearmark, Alex Bloom said: “The additional profit that we generate from London 2012 will allow us to invest in the future of our business in a way that would not have otherwise been possible in this tough economic climate.”
