A man has been arrested after a car crashed off the Thicket footpath near St Ives and was left hanging over the edge of the track earlier today (Wednesday).

Police said a 25-year-old man from Somerset had been taken to Huntingdon police station after being arrested for drink-drug driving.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 11.25am to reports of a road traffic collision with no injuries on Thicket Road, Houghton, involving a grey Seat saloon and a tree.”

They said that it appeared the driver and a passenger may have left the scene.

The Thicket is a footpath and cycleway which links St Ives to Houghton and is not open to cars although it does have vehicular access to part of the track at each end.
