A14 lorry crash causes chaos

THE A14 has reopened after being closed for more than four hours causing chaos on Huntingdonshire roads.

The eastbound carriageway was closed from junction 24 at Godmanchester to junction 29 at Bar Hill after a lorry jack-knifed just before 4am at the Swavesey turn-off.

The Highways Agency reopened the road shortly after 8.10am after clearing up a diesel spill.

There are extensive queues along the diverted routes from the A1198 along to the A428 at Caxton Gibbet. The A1123 in St Ives is also busy.

The A14 eastbound carriageway is moving at around 15 miles per hour at Huntingdon, and queues are still building on the Alconbury spur.

The A1 between Huntingdon and St Neots is also moving slow, around 26 miles per hour, and the A428 is also packed.

Warnings have been issued to motorists as some untreated roads will be icy.

A police spokesman said the driver, who was not injured, of the lorry has been reported for driving without due care and attention.
