It was an important night in Huntingdon last night, as Cllr Karl Brockett was elected as the Mayor of Huntingdon for the Local Government Year 2024/25.

His wife, Julie Brockett, will join him in serving the community as the Mayoress of Huntingdon.

The news was announced last night (May 2) at the annual Mayor Making Ceremony at Huntingdon Town Hall.

Cllr Audrey McAdam was appointed as Deputy Mayor of Huntingdon and Cllr Steve McAdam will serve as Consort.

At the ceremony, Chairs of the four Standing Committees were also elected. They are as follows:

Chair of Finance - Cllr Brian Luckham

Chair of Leisure and Community Services - Cllr Amanda Norton

Chair of Planning - Cllr David Landon Cole

Chair of Strategy and Corporate Plan - Cllr Jenny Taylor

Cllr Brockett also confirmed his appointments for his Chaplain (Rev John Randall), Macebearer (Dennis Smith) and Sea Cadet (Nathaniel Woodmore of TS Cromwell Sea Cadets).

The mayoral charities for 2024/25 are; Dreamdrops, a children's charity, Hunts Forum, a volunteering charity, the Huntingdon branch of the Royal British Legion, and the Veronica Claxton Memorial Fund.

The Veronica Claxton Memorial Fund was set up by Huntingdon local, Luke Claxton, in memory of his mum, Veronica, who died of cancer at the age of 50.
