Huntingdonshire District Council has issued an update on the work taking place in St Neots Town Centre as part of an improvements scheme.

A major upgrade project is taking place in St Neots in the effort to revamp the town centre and Market Square.

The work has been ongoing since the start of the year and is set to be completed by January 2025.

So far, works have included excavating the Market Square and widening footpaths.

Here is what St Neots residents can expect in the town centre in the weeks ahead.

There will be continued excavation on the north side of Market Square for new tree pits, rain gardens and service ducts for a new electrical system.

A temporary trench sheeting will be installed in the Market Square excavations to allow the installation of a rain garden system.

Foothpath widening works will continue on the north west corner of the Huntingdon Street junction, and the south side of the pedestrian crossing adjacent to Church Walk.

The Thursday Market will be open on the south side of the square.

In terms of traffic management, there will be temporary four-way traffic lights at the High Street and Huntingdon Street crossroads from 9:30am - 15:30am.

The disabled spaces outside of Kodak Express will be closed, and the loading area will be fenced off for the use of businesses on Market Place.

Fortunately, there are no road closures in place due to the works this week.

Throughout the works in St Neots, the Thursday Charter Market and the Saturday Farmer's Market will take place as normal in the Square.

Businesses in the area will also remain open and trading while works continue.
