A fundraiser has been launched to open a "much-needed" indoor skate park in Huntingdonshire.

Let’s Go Skate C.I.C., a non-profit company based in Brampton that teaches people how to skateboard, hopes to raise £20,000 by early April.

While the group raised more than £2,000 by holding a running challenge, Jason Emery, skateboard instructor at Let’s Go Skate C.I.C, said "we have a long way to go".

Mr Emery, who also runs Scenic Skate in Cambs Locke, said that when Let's Go Skate get to the £5,000 mark, Sport England will also donate £7,000 from their Active Together fund.

Having launched Let’s Go Skate C.I.C. in 2016, he said: "We can’t operate all year round due to the weather, so having an indoor facility would be hugely beneficial for the community.

"We don't have a central hub where we can operate out of which we can call home," he added.

"This means there's no place where potential customers can pop in and have a chat with us.

"It means we have to use outdoor facilities which we don't own to conduct our lessons which brings with it the need to share the skate park with other users and ensuring the council that owns the park is willing to have us there.

"Our own indoor place is now needed more than ever due to how we have grown post-pandemic.

"We had a surge of interest from new students when restrictions were eased a bit due to the fact that we were able to operate yet other activities like swimming was not.

"Us running more classes, plus more use from other riders at skate parks, has meant we are busier than ever, making it difficult at times for everybody to share."

If any other local business would be interested in donating a reward, please get in touch with Jason.

Let's Go Skate C.I.C. is a not for profit skate school which has been helping people get in to skateboarding since 2016.
