As the calendar year draws to a close, it is time to reflect on a busy start to the Hunts School Sports Partnership’s primary school events calendar.
1048 primary school children from an amazing 27 Huntingdonshire schools have attended an event this term.
The events have also been supported by 119 Sports Leaders in Year nine or 10 from five of the seven Huntingdonshire secondary schools, who have taken on roles and responsibilities such as referees, coaches, scorers, and event organisers.
Y1/2 Multi-Sports Festivals – St Ives and Sawtry
The event calendar started with two Year one/two Multi-Sports Festivals, the first at One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre and the second at Sawtry Village Academy. Over 220 children participated in a range of sporting activities delivered by Sports Leaders from St Ivo Academy and Sawtry Village Academy.
Year 5/6 Girls Football Festival & Pokémon Cup return with record attendance!
The Hunts School Sports Partnership Autumn term inter-school Girls Football events returned to One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre on Tuesday, October 17.
It was an action-packed day of excitement, camaraderie, and competition. The event was divided into two segments: a morning friendly festival and an afternoon English School Football Association Pokémon Cup, bringing together a total of 22 teams and an impressive 220 talented girls.
Y5/6 Thrilling Tag Rugby Tournaments Bring Excitement to Hunts School Sports Partnership
- Morning Excitement: Small Schools Shine in Tag Rugby
In an action-packed morning of sportsmanship, eight small schools took the field to compete in the Hunts School Sports Partnership primary school tag rugby tournament.
The round-robin format ignited a spirit of camaraderie and competition among the young athletes.
When the dust settled, Houghton Primary School emerged as the victorious champions, displaying their tag rugby prowess.
Bury Primary School secured the second spot, and St. Mary’s Primary School showcased their skills to grab the third position.
- Afternoon Glory: Large Schools Battle It Out.
The excitement didn’t stop in the morning, as the large schools took over the field in the afternoon.
An astounding twelve teams participated, making it a spectacular showcase of tag rugby talent.
The final match between Warboys Primary School and Westfield Primary School was a heart-pounding showdown, and in a surprising twist, it ended in a thrilling draw. Both teams were hailed as joint winners for their remarkable performance.
Meanwhile, the battle for the third spot was equally intense, with Buckden Primary School emerging victorious against Brampton Primary School in the 3rd place play-off match, securing the final podium spot.
KS1 and KS2 Panathlon Challenge Multi-Sports Festival
The popular Panathlon Multi-Sports Festival for children in KS1 and KS2 returned to One Leisure St Ives Indoor Centre on Tuesday, November 7.
Panathlon is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs every year the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.
The festival was our busiest ever with 12 schools and over 100 children attending!
Year 5/6 Mixed Football - Alconbury and Thorndown Crowned Joint District Champions
In a riveting showdown on Tuesday, November 14, at One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre’s state-of-the-art 3G pitch, the Huntingdonshire Year 5/6 Football Pokémon Cup unfolded with fierce competition among 15 schools and 138 eager children.
The highlight of the tournament was the heart-stopping final that concluded in a thrilling draw, declaring Alconbury CofE Primary School and Thorndown Primary School as joint district champions.
The intensity continued in the third-place match, where Warboys Primary Academy secured victory over Brampton Village Primary School in a display of skill and determination.
Year 1/2 Rapid Fire Cricket Festival
Seven primary schools took the opportunity to bring Year one and two children to a morning of indoor cricket fun on Tuesday, November 21.
The event which took place at Sawtry Village Academy and introduced the children to Rapid Fire Cricket, an adapted format of the game.
The format requires two members of the batting team to strike the ball off six tees before looking to gain as many runs as possible.
In the meantime, the fielding team look to return the balls and tees as quick as possible.
The children showed amazing batting and fielding skills which they had clearly been working on within their curriculum lessons.

Warboys Triumphant at Year 3/4 Futsal Competition
The Hunts School Sports Partnership’s Futsal competitions returned with a Year 3/4 Tournament on Tuesday, December 5.
The event was an exciting display of talent from across Huntingdonshire with Warboys Primary Academy named as district champions.
Little Paxton Primary School took the runners-up spot, with Houghton Primary School finishing in third.
Exciting Showdown in Year 5/6 Girls Futsal: Houghton and Westfield Emerge as Joint Champions
In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, eight primary schools from Huntingdonshire converged at the One Leisure St Ives on Tuesday, December 12, for the eagerly anticipated Year 5/6 Girls Futsal competition.
The competition showcased the talent and determination of young athletes, with Houghton and Westfield emerging as joint winners, demonstrating exceptional prowess on the futsal pitch. T
The excitement continued as Thorndown and Warboys claimed joint third place, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.
