Construction company Mick George has completed a 32-week demolition project on part of a former RAF base in Brampton, clearing space for hundreds of new homes.
As a part of the project, the firm, which has its headquarters in Huntingdon, recorded every step of the process in a time lapse video to show the changing landscape as a former administration building was felled.
Michael George, director of contracting, said: “Projects of this stature are always a pleasure to be involved with. As a local business, we recognise the affinity that local communities have with the site, notwithstanding the importance of the location on a national scale historically.
“As a business our contracting service, and particularly, our demolition offering is something we are very experienced. Although we are used to managing projects of the like, the rich heritage that is associated with this specific site provided a good opportunity to showcase our services at a distinguished UK landmark.”
The Ministry of Defence announced that RAF Brampton was surplus to requirements in 2006 and the base was eventually closed in 2013.
The 70-acre development was bought by a housing developer last year and is set to have 500 homes and other community buildings constructed on the site.
