Protect Our Post Offices Petition
WE, the undersigned, urge Post Office Limited, when considering the future of its network in Cambridgeshire, to take full account of the vital social role Post Office branches play in sparsely-populated rural areas, such as many parts of Huntingdonshire. In addition to the services provided on behalf of Post Office Limited, many rural offices are the only retail outlets within a considerable distance, as well as important parts of the vital social fabric of many small communities. If the withdrawal of Post Office business were to make them commercially unviable as businesses, irreparable damage would be caused.
In return for Post Office Limited seeking imaginative ways to sustain these indispensable rural facilities, we undertake to demonstrate by increasing our use of Post Office services before and after the formal consultation period in spring 2008 that profitability can be improved locally or the scale of losses progressively reduced.
We also call on the Government to extend the range of services offered by Post Offices to improve their chances of profitability and to market services more effectively.
