YOUNG patients being treated at Hinchingbrooke Hospital now have a new friend to keep them company after a schoolgirl donated her competition prize to Holly Ward.
Hannah Gilbert, pictured centre, who attends Eynesbury Primary School, won a large teddy bear after correctly guessing the name of the cuddly toy is Poppy.
But the bear did not stay in the hands of the new owner very long, as the eight-year-old opted to give it to Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
"I donated Poppy to the Holly Ward because when I was two years old I had a small eye operation and spent the day there," she said.
"When my mum told me I had won the competition, I was so surprised and very happy."
The competition was run by students at St Neots Community College who are aiming to raise money to fund a summer prom for Year 11.
Tickets for the guess-the-name-of-the-bear competition cost 25p each and raised £50 towards the cost of the prom.
Kelsey Rosen, chairman of the prom committee, said: "Every penny raised matters a great deal as it goes towards a range of deposits that are required for various aspects of the prom's organisation." Picture: IAN NARIN
