Supported Charities, Campaigns and Event Involvement
The WHT is involved in a huge range of community groups/activities including being in the Chamber of Commerce, part of town centre forums, leading members of two campaign groups - the Hospital SOS Taskforce and the No Way to 10k anti homes on the Green Belt campaign - and the University of Hertfordshire's humanities faculty advisory body. They also support a range of charities including, the Willow Foundation, Isabel Hospice, the Breast Unit appeal and many other worthy causes.

The Crow plays a leading role in the community in giving its support to charitable events such as the Pink Ribbon Run/Walk and the Royston Kite Festival.

IN February 2006, the Ely Standard launched its Help Our Hospice campaign to raise funds for terminally ill youngsters and increase awareness of the funding difficulties facing children's' hospices. In March of 2007, they also launched Liam's Fund. Liam Fairhurst is a 12-year-old schoolboy from Ely's neighbouring town of Soham.

The Herts Advertiser has always supported charities in general terms through the publicity they give both prior to events and afterwards. In 2004 they decided to adopt Grove House day hospice in St Albans as their special charity and have supported their 10k Challenge race for the second time this year. For the past 14 years they have also supported the Rotary Club's Annual Charity Cycle Ride.

The Comet is currently supporting the Sue Ryder Care Special Beds Appeal and has so far raised enough money for the installation of 8 new high tech beds. They also played a big part in the 'Save Our Services' campaign to ask the government and the health authorities to consolidate specialist and trauma services at Stevenage's Lister Hospital collecting a massive 12,092 signatures on their petition.

The Hunts Post is involved with charities across the district, helping to raise their profiles and funds. Each week the newspaper dedicates five pages to Community Life - the good work that goes on in our towns, villages, schools and groups. The newspaper is also involved with events throughout the year, and organises many of its own awards to celebrate and promote the best of Huntingdonshire.
