Profile of Danielle Wilkins - Editorial Assistant
How long have you been with Archant?
I have been with Archant for two months now, although it doesn't feel that long it's gone so quick! I started June 25 this year.
What attracted you to join?
I first became interested when I read a copy of Health 24 and found it really enjoyable, which then encouraged me to read a few other of Archant's magazines. I was looking for some local work experience in this field, so Archant seemed a good place to start.
What is it like to work here?
I am really enjoying working here. I have had the opportunity to do so much and it has been great working as part of a small team. This can be rare for a first job in journalism.
How would you describe a typical day?
Busy! Usually I start the day going through my emails; part of my job is to liaise with people outside the company. Then I spend the day researching and writing features for Health 24, Four Seasons or any other projects we have on the go, which I really enjoy. Occasionally, the editor, Danielle and I have the opportunity to go to some press events, which is always fun.
What is the best part of your job?
I have always wanted to write, so I would have to say writing features. I love having the chance to put across information, as well as entertain readers. I love feeling that sense of accomplishment when I have written something I am really proud of, especially when it's all laid out on the page.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
Researching a feature can be interesting but it can also be very challenging, especially when you are researching a subject that is new to you. Writing for a local magazine means you have to have a good knowledge of the area, which I have had to gain.
