A WEEKEND of activities will celebrate the special plum orchards of Bluntisham, Colne and Somersham on August 15 and 16.
The programme of activities includes guided orchard walks, a sensory trail and story telling for children, an artist's open studio, a beekeeping display with an observation beehive, a photographic exhibition and an informal photography workshop for all ages
There will be tastings of different varieties of locally-grown plums, which will also be available to buy, along with local food and drink. A specially-brewed beer will be available, delicately flavoured with preserved local Victoria Plums. Another activity is the chance to learn how to make your own plum chutney to take home.
The Plum Event is organised by the Cambridgeshire Biodiversity Partnership and supported financially by Natural England as part of the Traditional Orchards partnership project, managed by the National Trust.
Fabiola Blum from the Cambridgeshire Biodiversity Partnership said: "Bluntisham, Colne and Somersham have some really special traditional plum orchards. They include heritage varieties of fruit, including Wallis's Wonder, a variety bred in Bluntisham.
INFORMATION: There is a charge of £5 to cover ingredients for the chutney making, which has to be booked in advance by calling 07767 250825.
