Last season's striker Russell Bull made his Hitchin Town debut last night against Luton Town. Hitchin ran out 4-1 winners after an impressive display. Bull scored Hitchin's fourth goal after coming off the bench early in the second half.
Last season's player of the year Ashley Daniels, Patrick Alcide and new signings Gary Statham and Guiseppe D'Angelo also made their debuts for Hitchin Town reserves on Saturday. All four made good impressions in the 3-0 win over South Midlands Division 1 side Brache Sparta.
Codicote 1st team manager Dan Kennoy is part of the Hitchin Town coaching staff and is very keen to give lower league players the opportunity to train and play with a club of Hitchin's standards. "It's very rewarding as a coach to notice the abilities of someone playing lower league football and seeing them progress and playing in-front of a crowd of 800 plus. I signed Russell from Buntingford last season and he made an instant impact for us, he's brought him along to pre-season with Hitchin and he's impressed enough to earn a 1st team squad place for the pre-season games. Time will tell if he can pin down a regular place but i have faith in him." Kennoy also commented on Hitchin's reserve team performance "It was a good first game, i don't think any of the lads had played with each other before. Patrick captained the side and both Ashley and Guiseppe done well. Gary didn't have much to do but organised the back four well. I'm sure some of them will push for first team places."
